New BHI Stainable/Paintable Aluminum Astragal
A new painting process, formulated specifically for our DLP aluminum astragal, allows the product to be top-coated using the same gel stain or latex paint on the entire door system. The electromagnetically applied primer is the same color as most woodgrain fiberglass doors. Easily create a wood grain appearance by applying the stain with a rough bristled brush. (See the instructions below for more details.)
As always, our aluminum astragals continue to maintain Florida Building Code compliance.
Staining Instructions
*The door and astragal should be stained as one
- Wipe down the door and astragal with mineral
spirits to remove any contaminates or oil.
- Allow the mineral spirits to dry. Tape off or remove the trim strips and any hardware installed into the astragal.
- Apply an interior gel/wiping stain using a chip brush. Apply the stain in light coats, following the grain of the door. Once each coat becomes tacky, brush the astragal with the chip brush to create the wood grain effect. Let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. (Apply at least 2 coats.)
- Once the stain has fully cured, apply a SPAR Varnish for protection from the elements. Follow the manufacturers’ suggestions for this application.
